The encore teachers believe that recognizing students for achievement, social skill, participation and improvement is important. Below are two recognition programs that are used.
"GOOD NEWS" cards – Weekly the encore teachers send home these post cards to parents sharing neat things that their son/daughter did in class. These may also be used in conjunction with our "Student Stars" program.
"STUDENT STARS" – Bimonthly teachers choose students from each class that exemplify positive characteristics or have shown great improvement. These names are posted in the teacher’s classroom and a "good news" card is sent home.
Scullen Middle School functions on a block schedule. For encore teachers that means we generally see the eighth grades for the first three periods, the seventh graders for the middle three periods and the sixth graders for the last three periods of the day. Various classes are offered throughout the three years at Scullen. The sixth grade classes are predetermined for each student. The classes offered for each grade level are as follows:
