Dear Scullen Parents, Students and Community,

I hope you are enjoying a wonderful summer filled with excitement and relaxation as we recharge for the upcoming school year. As principal of Scullen Middle School, it is my pleasure to welcome everyone back for another fantastic year.

At Scullen it is our mission to empower and challenge its members to grow socially, emotionally, and intellectually, to provide a foundation for lifelong learning. As a staff we have been working hard this summer to implement this mission. Our devoted staff are already planning and preparing for the arrival of their new students. Our fantastic office team are working together to register new families and print schedules. Our dedicated custodians have spent the summer thoroughly cleaning the building and preparing student lockers. We are eager to have students engaged in our classrooms, interacting in our hallways, and filled with the enthusiasm to grow, learn and reach their full potential this school year.

As we prepare for the upcoming school year, here are a few important dates to keep in mind:

Thursday, August 8th
S.W.I.M. (Scullen Welcomes Incoming Middle-schoolers)
8:00 - 11:30am - All 6th grade students are invited to Scullen to retrieve their schedules, practice opening their lockers and learn all there is to know for a productive and successful school year.
Schedule Pick-up
7th and 8th Grade students will have the opportunity to receive their schedules and set up their lockers
1:00 p.m.- 2:00 p.m. - 7th Grade
2:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. - 8th Grade
Kona Ice will be available for purchase following each of these events. Please enjoy a frozen treat as you head home from SWIM and the schedule pick-up. A portion of the proceeds from Kona Ice will go to the IPEF half marathon runners. In order to keep the building in pristine shape for the beginning of the year, we ask that students do not come into the building with Kona Ice.
Tuesday, August 13th 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m
Makeup Schedule Pick-up
We understand that many families may not be available August 8th. We will hold a schedule pick-up. This will be a time for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students to come into the building, receive their schedules and set up their lockers. Due to the availability of staff members, the building will not be open for schedule pick-up past this date. If your student is not able to attend these pick-up dates, we will be sure to provide all of the information and assistance that your students needs on the first day of school.
Saturday, August 17th 8:30a.m.-10:30 a.m.
Flapjack Welcome Back/Admin Meet and Greet
Please join us for the Flapjack Welcome Back. The Scullen admin team including the new principal and assistant principal would like to invite you into the foire for a cup of coffee and conversation. We hope you will also join us for an all you can eat pancake breakfast in the cafeteria. The cost is only $5 for adults and $3 for children. Proceeds will go to the IPEF half-marathon runners.
Wednesday, August 14th 12:30 p.m.-1:30 p.m.
504/IEP Meet and Greet
This will be an opportunity for all students with IEPs and 504s to build relationships with their teachers prior to the 2019-2020 school year. Students will have the opportunity to practice opening their lockers, practice their daily schedule, and meet with each of their teachers who will be located in their classrooms. The Meet and Greet will follow an open house format. Teachers and case managers will be located in their classrooms and throughout the building to get to know you and your child and welcome you to Scullen.
I look forward to seeing all our students on Monday, August 19th, for our first day of school. Together, let’s make this an outstanding school year!

Sincerely,

Scott Loughrige
